Cleveland-born Chapman began playing guitar & writing songs as a tike. Chapman began street-performing & swimming cafe within Cambridge &, when waiting to graduate college, she signed to SBK, releasing Tracy Chapman (1988). the album was critically acclaimed, & she began touring & building a fanbase. Before long when performing at Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday person, Chapman's "Fast Car" began its rise on the U.s. stock and index charts.
